that is a horrible conversation starter.
but it could be funny.
was there a hint of irony?
if it was an attempt at funny, perhaps coffee isn't amiss.
if it was intentional, perhaps you should play it up and screw with that co-worker's mind.
say you have to pick up your husband, so you have to leave early. the institute closes early on fridays.
and then get books out from the local library that have self help titles and how to deal with the mentally challenged (is that the current pc term? - I've been out of the PC loop since university.)
leave the books out during lunch breaks.
but don't say anything. be all cryptic.

It was an half-assed attempt to be funny {but also, half serious} in response to an amazingly stupid comment he said to her.
I don't know what the PC term is now ~ I am so not PC & I am resisting it with every fibre of my being. I think the PC police go too far. Reminds me of stories I've heard of the language police in Quebec.
