I've been tagged by Poopsie for this meme about books. Since I've been doing nothing but Days of Grace for ages & ages {there is a reason, which I will get into when I bloody-well feel like it!}, I thought I'd give it a rest & talk about something else for a while. So, here goes:
List:
Four childhood books read:
- 'Green Eggs & Ham' ~ Dr. Seuss. First book I ever read. Do not own a copy.
- 'The Last Two Elves in Denmark' ~ Mary Calhoun. A book I won during some contest at the library when I was 6. Can't remember what the contest was, but the inscription on the inside cover clearly states "Wilma Flintstone, First Prize, 1977".
- 'Clip Clop' ~ Nancy Hoag. A delightful book about a horse getting a new pair of shoes. Most possibly the source of my footwear obsession.
- 'The Hobbit' ~ J.R.R.Tolkien. School assigned in grade 5, became an instant favourite of mine; so much so that I went on to read 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy that same year. I was a tad advanced in my reading, n'est-ce pas?
Four Classic books read & never forgotten:
- 'Gulliver's Travels' ~ Jonathon Swift
- ' Frankenstein' ~ Mary Shelley. Those English courses at uni were handy for something.
- 'Little Women' ~ Louisa May Alcott
- 'Les Miserables' ~ Victor Hugo
Four personal modern 'Classic' novels {personally, I'm not really sure when the cut-off date is for a modern classic, so I'm just going by instinct}:
- 'To Kill a Mockingbird' ~ Harper Lee
- 'Brave New World' ~ Aldous Huxley
- 'The Great Gatsby' ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald
- '1984' ~ George Orwell
Four authors I read again and again:
- Diana Galbaldon
- Margaret Atwood
- Agatha Christie
- James Patterson
Four authors &/or books I'll never read again:
- Alice Munro.
- 'Dead Air' ~ Bob Larson. Worst. Book. Evah!
- Stephen King. I'm done with him.
- Mary Higgins Clark. Too formulaic. Too Harlequin romance meets "it was a dark & stormy night". Bah! Plus, how many made for the W network movies starring Meredith Baxter Birney do we really need?
Four books on my 'To-Be-Read' list:
- 'The Shack' ~ William P. Young
- 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas' ~ John Boyne
- 'The Diving Bell & the Butterfly' ~ Jean-Dominique Bauby. Lurved the movie, now want to read the book it was based on.
- The Bible
The four books I'd take to a desert island:
- 'The Handmaid's Tale' ~ Margaret Atwood
- The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
- 'The Hobbit' ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
- '1984' ~ George Orwell
Four books recommendations you have followed:
- 'Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal' ~ Christopher Moore. Hysterical!
- 'The Pillars of the Earth' ~ Ken Follett. & no, it wasn't Oprah who recommended it to me.
- 'The Kite Runner' ~ Khaled Hosseini
- 'The Lovely Bones' ~ Alice Sebold
The last lines of one of my favourite books:
"As all historians know, the past is a great darkness, and filled with echoes. Voices may reach us from it; but what they say to us is imbued with the obscurity of the matrix out of which they come; and, try as we may, we cannot always decipher them precisely in the clearer light of our own day. Are there any questions?" 'The Handmaid's Tale'

I am too lazy & too shy {HA!} to tag any specific person. Please, do this meme if you want to.
