Sometimes, not very often {mayhaps twice an evening or so} I get so upset by some stupid character doing some stupid thing that I seriously want to fling a cat at the TV. Then I remember that I lurve my cat ~ even if he is an Evil Demon Spawn ~ & as much as I like TV, it is not real so then I simmer down.
Other times, a character comes along that is so heinous, so far from reality that even if I suspend my disbelief I can't bear to watch their antics, that it becomes extremely hard for me to watch programs that they are on. When this happens, one of two things result. Either I watch the program, grimacing & making catty comments the whole time they are on the screen, or I stop watching the program all together.
Here are the characters who make me vomit a little in my mouth:
6. Catherine Willows, CSI ~ now I don't know if Marg Helgenberger has been instructed by her director to walk around like she's hot shit in a champagne glass or if that's just her personality shining through, but IMHO she's just cold diarrhea in a dixie cup.
5. Counselor Deanna Troi, Star Trek: The Next Generation ~ why this amazing, well-written, fan favourite had to be subjected to the likes of Marina Sirtis prancing around in the gallactic cheer-leader's outfit spouting such drivel as "I feel love & great joy... love, & great joy" I'll never know.
4. Doctor Pulaski, Star Trek: The Next Generation ~ when Diana Muldaur took over as Chief Medical Officer of the Enterprise, they almost lost me as a viewer. Thankfully, Gates McFadden came to her senses & returned to the show, or I would have missed the last 5 seasons.
3. Lieutenant Horatio Caine, CSI Miami ~ did anyone ever see Jim Carrey's imitation of David Caruso on Leno? Let's just say there was a lot of standing sideways to the camera, enunciating & pausing a la William Shatner {but not in a good way}, & some excessive use of sunglasses as a prop. Classic! So true-to-life! So the reason I don't watch this show anymore.
2. Susan Mayer, Desperate Housewives ~ Teri Hatcher, I love. This character, I do not. Her inane stupidity {I know, redundant, but necessary!} is about 1/2 the reason I no longer watch this show.
1. It's a tie! The most annoying characters on TV right now are Detective Elliot Stabler & Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit ~ do they ever, EVER do anything that they're told? Do they ever follow the rules? Do they ever shut up? Could we have one episode, just ONE where Olivia doesn't mention that she's a child of rape? They are so self-important, so condescending, so full of misplaced self-righteousness, I can't even watch this show anymore ~ they annoy me THAT MUCH. It's really too bad, too, cuz the other characters are intriguing but I can't get past how much these characters piss me off.
